The Writing Center is not just for English classes! If you have assigned papers in your science, math, social studies, foreign language, art, health, or performance classes, please take advantage of this in-house service. Our tutors are happy and ready to help your students with their writing assignments. Please help us serve you better by giving us some information ahead of time (scroll the bottom of this page) and following the guidelines below.
We are located in a small room in the high school library; during stretches of online testing, we may be temporarily relocated.
Please send no more than two students at a time. Our center is small and cannot double as a waiting room for others. Since conferences take at least 15 minutes – often longer – please stagger the sending of your students to the library. Thanks!
Have students bring a copy of the writing prompt/assignment to the Writing Center. This will help the tutors direct students back to the original goal(s).
Have students write down their questions/concerns about their writing BEFORE visiting the Writing Center. This requires students to think about what they are doing and what they want to accomplish in the conference.
Remember that the Writing Center is designed primarily to help with higher order writing concerns: content or idea formulation and development, organization and transitions, paragraph and sentence structures. If you find it necessary, we can also help with the editing stage (lower order concerns) of the writing process – please be sure to let the WC staff know what you need! We are here to help you!
Thanks so much! Angee Polzinetti
